A mud pump refers to a mechanical device that conveys mud or water and other flushing fluids into the borehole during the drilling process. The mud pump is an important component of drilling equipment. In the commonly used positive circulation drilling, it is to send the surface flushing medium - clear water, mud or polymer flushing fluid - directly to the bottom of the drill bit through high-pressure hoses, faucets and the center hole of the drill pipe column under certain pressure, in order to cool the drill bit, remove the cuttings cut off and transport them to the surface. The commonly used mud pumps are piston or plunger types. They are driven by a prime mover to rotate the crankshaft of the pump. The crankshaft then drives the piston or plunger to perform reciprocating motion in the pump cylinder through a crosshead. Under the alternating action of the suction and discharge valves, the purpose of pressurizing and circulating the flushing liquid is achieved.
